Mission Statement & Values

The Felton Fire Protection District's mission is to be an effective emergency service organization serving the residents, business and property owners, and visitors of Felton, with quality fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, fire prevention, and public education.

In carrying out this mission, the Felton Fire Protection District will:

Provide priority to firefighter safety
Encourage the educational and personal development of fire district personnel
Promote positive attitudes and teamwork to take full advantage of our skills, knowledge, and creativity
Communicate openly and honestly with our members and community to inspire trust and confidence

Felton residents, businesses, and visitors

The fire district exists by public approval, and our function is to serve the public interest. We are committed to listening and responding to the community and the people within our organization, and to finding better ways to serve the residents, businesses, and visitors of Felton.

Ethical

The fire district is committed to conducting business with the highest ethical standards.

Learning

The fire district values the importance of training and retaining talented personnel. Training prepares the firefighters for safe and efficient emergency practices.

Team

The fire district strives to maintain a cooperative relationship between the Board of Directors, fire chief, firefighters, and the Auxiliary. Working together as a team fosters trust, resolution of conflicts, commitment, accountability, and achievement of goals.

Opportunities

Opportunities are encouraged for all volunteers to develop their potential and make the best use of their abilities. Opportunities may be found in training, emergency incidents, public events, public education, and more.

Nurturing

The fire district believes in the importance of nurturing and maintaining positive relationships with all fire agencies and other government agencies in the County of Santa Cruz, State of California, the Federal government, and other Special Districts.

Firefighters

The fire district's volunteer firefighters are our most valuable asset. With the active participation of our firefighters, FFPD is able to provide quality service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Felton.

Involved in the community

FFPD strives to be an active member of the Felton community. Beyond fire and emergency services, the district is active in the Felton Business Association, sponsoring youth sports teams, assisting SLV Unified School District at events like football games, graduation, and Grad Night, and providing public education at the elementary schools. CPR, AED, and CERT classes are offered to the public at no charge.

Responsible

The fire district believes the quality of service is everyone's responsibility. We prepare for our response to emergencies and believe property owners, residents, business owners, and visitors should also prepare for potential emergencies. The best outcome in an emergency is found when all parties have done their part.

Equipped

The fire district places high value on equipping our firefighters with quality equipment they need to carry out their tasks safely and effectively. Every effort is made to provide the finest equipment possible, including ongoing maintenance.

District Fee Schedule

Felton Fire Protection District has established and adopted a fee schedule by local ordinance. User and regulatory fees are intended to cover all, or a portion of, the costs incurred by the District for providing fee-related services and activities that are not otherwise provided to those not paying the fee. California law provides guidance regarding the amounts the District may charge for fee-related services and activities. Specifically, in order to avoid being considered taxes, fees charged shall not exceed the estimated reasonable cost of providing the services, activities, or materials for which fees are charged.

Important: The District only accepts cash or check as method of payment. Fees are due upon issuance of permit or invoice.

On August 7, 2023, the FFPD Board of Directors adopted a new fee schedule that took effect on January 1, 2024. These fees cover the cost of any service which FFPD provides, or for the cost of enforcing any regulation for which the fee is charged. Fees are invoiced for inspection services, plan review service / required permits, false alarms, and other administrative fees.
